What is dex-embedded

dex-embedded is a Dersalis software module that runs directly on your MDVR (mobile digital video recorder) and picks up the alerts from the Dersalis watches worn by operators, with no additional hardware beyond the Bluetooth the device already has (or a USB dongle).

With it, the software already running on your MDVR receives, in real time and already identified:

  • Risk incidents detected by the watch, with severity and lifecycle;
  • Operator status: active, paused or no journey, battery, GPS, Wi-Fi and panic button;
  • Attention tests applied at the start, middle and end of the shift.

Why integrate on the MDVR

  • No extra hardware. If your MDVR runs Linux and has Bluetooth (built in or through a USB dongle), it is probably already compatible. See the requirements.
  • Works with an unstable connection. The operator is identified inside the device, against a locally stored roster. No event depends on an internet lookup.
  • Light on the data plan. There is no constant polling: traffic only happens when something relevant occurs, and the local roster is only refreshed when a journey starts.
  • Easy to consume. Events come out through a local API (gRPC), as JSON lines (dex-events, no gRPC library needed) or over MQTT. Your software never deals with Bluetooth.
  • Privacy by default. The operator's name is never read, stored or sent: the operator is identified only by registration number.
  • Does not lose events. Everything is written to a durable local queue before anything is sent, and survives device restarts and network outages.

How a partnership starts

  1. You tell us about your device (the technical survey).
  2. Dersalis prepares the right package for your hardware.
  3. You validate on a single device.
  4. Once the test passes, the rollout continues to the fleet.
